Working with objects donated by Rochdale Local History Collection, found audio and field recordings taken from around Rochdale, and photobooks, Maryanne Royle has created sound installations in Gallery FRANK, an original Victorian Mill in Littleborough.
“This work is about where I am and where I’m coming from. The roots of me and how I connect with them.
Growing up surrounded by the immense abandoned bodies of a deafening and consuming industry turned silent. Artisans, proud specialists, engineers. Knowledge Lost to time.
I walk alongside the veins of it and work inside the organs that stopped moving years ago. A landscape that remembers what living memory has forgot.
This is a work in progress, my first thoughts and compositions of things I have been working with and ideas I would like to expand upon inspired by objects, photographs and voices of the past.”
