Abi Black

Abi Black is a Greater Manchester based artist, specialising in photography. Her practice works to understand and enrich her relationship with places that she calls home through the art of wondering, without fear of retracing steps or taking new turns.

Black is engrossed by what exists between the defined structures of the street. She marvels at the tension between contrasting articles: how they layer and decay over time. A quiet, yet bold example of the nature of existence.

In recent work, ‘Lanky Town’, Black utilises domestic materials and forms, hoping generate a greater sense of belonging. The sentiment of motherland is reinstated through history and memory. Artefacts in her photography, pebbledash and tower blocks, repeat in the vernacular images and words of the family archive.
